Catch of the Day #040

Between Neptune and Mother Nature we have been on our toes. Strong SE winds off Cape Agulhas have hampered fishing for our summer linefish out of Struisbaai. Cape Point has seen some great catches of fresh yellowtail and our summer tuna. The power of change is with the consumer. Choose a fishing method that suits your ethos and beliefs. At Greenfish we support low impact fishing methods. What is low impact fishing?Low impact fishing is a type of fishing that aims to minimise the environmental impact of fishing activities. A calm sea never made a skilled sailor. This past week of strong SE winds has put us all to the test. Some days were simply unfishable. Nevertheless, the weather gaps we have had have allowed us to catch our summer yellowtail and we are still getting a few nice tuna. The festive season makes me think of family. For these reasons, these three species are all rated 5/5 on our very own Greenfish Eco...

Summer is here bringing hot days and strong south easterly wind. Snoek catches have been outstanding off Cape Point (watch video here) and the yellowtail is starting to show in good numbers, although still proving difficult to catch. Tuna is moving closer as the warm water pushes in and we are hoping they run throughout the summer season as they have traditionally done.  Some words from our "Catch a day on the water with Greenfish" competition winner: “An amazingly authentic morning spent with the Greenfish crew. The day began at 4am as my son (7) and I made our way...

Catch of the Day #036

The arrival of the snoek in False Bay a couple of days ago has had all the traditional line fishermen in a frenzy.  Long queues to get boats on the water at the slipway has us leaving the house at 10pm to be able to launch the boat and be on the water at sunrise for when the snoek bites. My brother and I have spent a few long days on the water but now have some of the best snoek Cape Town has to offer in stock.Tomorrow’s future food stars.  A few students from the Silwood School of Cookery in...
