Catch of the Day #043

Ryan Nienaber

2023 is here and summer is in full swing. Hot days, SE winds, sunburn and braais - all the things we love in Cape Town.

Fishing has been good and Struisbaai has been providing good catches of yellowtail. Off Cape Point we have fresh tuna, swordfish, marlin and for the adventurous some fresh moon fish (also called Opah), a unique fish. You can check out what it looks like on Instagram here https://www.instagram.com/p/B1PFnz9Hjk9/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Fresh hake and kingklip have become staples over the last couple of weeks. They are easy to cook and make you look like a kitchen hero without doing much work.  Learn how to cook them with the fishwife here https://fishwife.co.za/the-easiest-grilled-kingklip/

. The same recipe can be used for grilling hake.

Turbo the turtle is swimming far and wide. In the last 30 days since the release, Turbo has swum around 800km, averaging 26.7km a day. Turbo is currently 230km offshore in waters that run 4.2km deep. A huge thank you to the wonderful Greenfish customers that donated towards buying the tracker.

Worried about Eskom and not having power to cook your yummy prawns? No problem! Braai them with this lekker recipe - watch here:  https://youtube.com/shorts/TnRxhkqv4nI?feature=share
