    This catch of the day features Yellowfin Tuna Belly. This tuna has been locally and sustainably caught by our Pole fisherman, one hook, one line, one fish at a time. We have carefully selected for you to enjoy with your family or friends.


    Yellowfin Tuna Belly(total +-800g-1000g per box )

    Tuna Belly is the “foie gras” of tuna. It is like eating Wagyu beef compared to eating a plain old shop bought steak. Tuna belly or “toro" is generally considered the king of all sushi ingredients in Japan.

    This box is ideal for any fish lover to add some variety into their week day cooking or on the braai. We have taken care of the mess, you look after the rest. Your fish will arrive vacuum packed, to make it easy to use at home

  • Instructions

    Your box will arrive fresh, simply store in your fridge, and use at your leisure (up to 5 days). For home freezing, freeze on the day of arrival, and use within 3 months. Yellowfin tuna flesh colour may change colour from a light pink to light brown once frozen (this is normal).

  • Sustainability

    All our Yellowfin Tuna is caught with a pole and line (one fish at a time) by fishermen in the cold waters off Cape Point. This method of catch is rated green by SASSI with the lowest discard rates and least possible impact on ocean ecology.

  • Fishwife Recipes

    Most great seafood recipes are heroing the flavours and freshness of the catch itself. The Fishwife shows us how to get the most out of Greenfish tuna belly. You will need:

    • Greenfish Yellowfin Tuna Belly
    • Salt & Pepper
    • Japanese 7 spice (or 5 spice)
    • 1/3 Cup Teriyaki Sauce
    • 3 Tbsp Sesame Oil (can substitute with olive oil)
    • 2 Tbsp Lemon Juice


    1. Sprinkle the 7 spice, salt & pepper to both sides of the steaks. (You do not need to use a lot of the 7 spice as it has some heat to it!).
    2. In a glass dish marinate the Tuna Belly in the Teriyaki Sauce, Sesame Oil and Lemon Juice for at least 45 minutes. (You can leave overnight in the fridge).
    3. Heat the pan on high heat and quickly pan fry the steaks. Thin steaks will take approximately 1 minute per side and thicker steaks approximately 2 minutes per side.

          My second time ordering this exquisite piece of tuna. Used recipe for teriyaki marinated tuna belly and served it in bowls with vinegar sushi rice and various garnishes (shaved fennel, grapefruit segments, edamame beans etc.) Food of the gods thanks to the rich, unctuous tuna! (And because it is so rich it goes a very long way too. ) By the way, I notice several reviewers say they have been successful using this cut for eating raw - sashimi style. I have eaten otoro sushi in restaurants and it was divine. But my experience when trying to replicate that with this cut has been slices of deliciously fatty fish with completely unchewable membranes running through them! A few minutes of frying and they miraculously disappear. (The reviewer of fishwife's recipe records the same experience.)

          Best sashimi ever

          If you’re not used to toro sashimi, this is the tastiest sushi. Most local sushi resturants do not serve toro because they can’t find it, it’s too expensive or their chefs cannot cut it properly. The fish I received was superb. Make sure to have the pieces cut into smaller packages and freeze immediately. Greenfish was my best online find this year ☺️

          That Tuna Belly - simply pan Fried in a little Olive Oil and seasoned - To die for ! ( Ordered at 21h30 and delivered the next day - beautifully packaged in its own little Foam coldbox ).

          My first purchase was Tuna Belly or Toro which I think is the best part. I used some of it as Sashimi and it was divine. Being slightly fatty it melts in your mouth and has a wonderful flavour. I haven’t yet cooked any but will do so soon. My service from Green Fish was excellent. I ordered at 11am and was delivered later that day. Excellent!

          Magnificent tuna belly

          The melt-in-mouth tuna belly is a rare luxury. There is only one per tuna so don't hesitate to buy. It makes for a beautiful ceviche. The tuna's buttery goodness will make for a perfect braai.
