The heat of summer has arrived and so has the peak of our summer fishing. When the wind has allowed us to safely get to sea, we have had good catches of yellowtail, silver fish, cape salmon and more from our handline fishing boats in Struisbaai.
This week was a reminder of how dangerous the ocean can be as a boat in False Bay has gone missing while trying to catch Kob and 2 fishermen are believed to have drowned.
We have seen signs that the tuna season wants to start earlier than expected, and if we go on historical catches, I think we are going to be in for a bumper March for tuna catches.
